Why Are The Youths Leaving The Church

Recently I have noticed an alarming amount of young people leaving the churches. I heard a survey quoted recently claiming 86% of the young people in the evangelical church leave at age 18 and never come back. Now thats a staggering figure, I am becoming very concern, because of course i am a youth and i love my peers. Is It True That"3 out of 4 Christian teens walk away
from the church after they leave home"

What or Who do you think is contributing to this trend?

Well to be honest, the things in the world are more presentable than that of the church. To me, some churches tend to make ppl feel clustered and old e.g. no earrings, pants or certain type of gospel is forbidden. Like Kirk Franklin or Dj Nicholas & Prodigal son. The world is changing and the church has to adapt to some of these changes to retain their teens. #amjustsaying

Hey Reneece i agree with you part way, but the church and the world is different and the church should not have to bend its ways to please the world. When it comes to God and his standard there is no Compromise

This figure may be right, not just after leaving home but at any age they start to see and understand that some of the people they see as examples/role models are not really "clothe in white". Another contributing factor is that the church is becoming too "spiritual", hence, becoming unbalanced. When these young people meet upon REAL LIFE CHALLENGES then they most times go with the "easiest choice"!!! According to an associate, the church has become boring with little or nothing to keep the younger generation's attention... is this really true?

It can be a little pressuring sometimes, people are looking at you from all angles expecting you to be perfect and are usually very quick to criticise your actions. While this sometimes doesnt really bother me, I think there is not much that is quite exciting about my church, probably if there were things that were exciting it might be a little different. The elders are not always understanding, and don't usually take time to understand each teenager inorder to help them through their christian struggles and help build their faith.

The Chuch now: Hyprocrisy at its highest, transforming the church into a place filled with non believers sharing their negative morals, nothing that is based on uplifting youths and it goes on and on and on . . . The Church Then: Hyprocrisy? Yes! but to what extent?, People going to church to praise and worship not to showcase the assets, bible school was encouraged now parents wants their children by their side in the grown up session not understanding a thing and it goes on and on and on . . . Now why do you think that the youths are leaving the church?

It is infact true that alot of young people are leaving the church. I strongly believe that a major contributing factor to this is the lack of social attention and judgement that is cast upon us as youth, by members of whichever denomination we belong to. I want to implore each and everyone of us though, not to give up on the church because it plays a very important role in our daily lives. Lets just pray for each other in our prayers, whether we know each other or not...

The youths are leaving the church because there are no avenues for self expression and individualism. The church wish to see everybody as a unit and most times does not identify with the socio-cultural and psyco-dynamic changes in the young peoples lives. Just like the school, the church is an institution and should be well rounded. They need to raise an awareness and allow the youths to express themselves in a positive manner, instead of preaching about hell and damnation and criticize every day, lecture them about ways to get themselves right in the eyes of the lord and make the youths aware of the tempatations in life. I could go on and on about this.... But the church like every where else has its negative and positive experiences, church is what you make it. Consecrate your life to the lord and not the church that is of man.

This is so true. I'm so guilty of feeling like the church ain't doing what it aught to.

I am guilty of walking away from the church because there was no sense on belonging or love. The elders want the youth to leave for all I care. They feel threatened like they are gonna have to release their neck hold on power and position. Elders hold to hard and fast to some beliefs and youth are not allowed to express themselves.
